Why is marceline mad at her dad
I love you Marceline. His response feels like a band-aid. But with Abadeer distracted, Finn is able to use his weapons to free the souls and perform the spell that will send Abadeer back to the Nightosphere. Marceline is, at first, upset with Finn. When Finn and Jake confront Abadeer about his actions, he admits that Marceline ruling the Nightosphere is what he has always wanted.
Finn and Jake are able to save Marceline and escape from the Nightosphere, but before they close their portal, Marceline and her father share a few last words. Once again, her father has disappointed her with his selfish behavior. His inability to separate from Marceline and recognize her autonomy resulted in misunderstanding and conflict. Her frank statement, telling her father that she wants him to be proud of her, is a valuable moment for the viewer.
It is a reminder that children need to be appreciated for the people they are and not as extensions of their parents, and that parents, as humans, are fundamentally flawed and may not always act the way they should. Simon Petrikov was able to fill these roles, but only at the expense of his own mental health.
In order to keep himself and Marceline alive, he needed to use the power from an enchanted crown to ward off evil, mutant beings. In a flashback to years earlier, Simon searches high and low for chicken soup to heal a sick Marceline. Several times, he puts on his crown in order to summon the powers of the Ice King of the present and protect Marceline from danger, even though he and Marceline both recognize that the crown is making him crazy.
Simon, with his love and his feeling of obligation to care for young Marcy, is a much better father than Hunson Abadeer. However, he has devolved over time into a maniac who is obsessed with capturing princesses, committed to annoying Finn and Jake, and devoid of a memory.
However, this can also be interpreted as a comment on the disappointment and abandonment every child will experience at some point with their parents. Simon may have been a good father in the past, but his efforts caused him to lose his mind and caused Marceline to lose him, the only person she could rely on as a child. Marceline, for her part, has accepted this loss. Finn, we are told, is the last remaining human in the Land of Ooo.
And with the special finally, out, the fans had both plenty of questions answered and some new ones raised. The biggest takeaway from "Obsidian" is the fact that this version of Marceline is not the same one that the fans were introduced to long ago.
She's no longer the rebellious and aggravated rock star that spoke to many people's inner teenagers. Having had some time to reflect on her life and currently enjoying her rekindled relationship with Princess Bubblegum, Marceline has found some inner peace in her life and no longer feels as mad at the world. This was hilariously portrayed when the rambunctious Glassboy played by Steven Universe 's Michaela Dietz tried to emulate Marcy's iconic tone, only to make Marceline cringe at the very image of her overemotional youth.
As the story dived into Marceline's childhood, it showed her and her mother, Elise, exploring the new, apocalyptic landscape that would eventually become Ooo.
While this offered plenty of revealing and intimate moments between them, one can't help but feel that there was a bigger story going on. Elise was teaching Marceline how to draw a map to find a bomb shelter that she surprisingly had a keycard to. When the two got near it, Elise dedicated her remaining time to fixing up a scooter and supposedly rode off on it while Marcy was left at the bunker.
It's unclear how Elise got her keycard in the first place and what she ultimately wanted to do with the shelter and scooter, aside from find shelter for her soon to be abandoned daughter.
While Elise's intentions remained a mystery, the fans at least got a better idea of what happened to her. Though it's easy to imagine that Marceline, as a vampire, had simply outlived her mortal mother, "Obsidian" gave a closer, much more tragic view as to how the two separated.
All throughout the flashbacks, Elise looked increasingly weaker and was constantly coughing, likely due to the world's radiation poisoning. She also doesn't appear to have bite marks, both these factors indicating she is not a vampire yet.
The line "why did you leave me" may have to do with Marceline's father's absence during the flashbacks when she was shown in the post-apocalyptic city. The song suggests Marceline does not understand his reason for leaving her, and goes on to imply that he is always off on "business trips" [see below], which may be a metaphor for his duties in the Nightosphere. However, the song lyrics in general may just refer to his not being very involved in her life altogether.
Also, since the original lyrics were not aired, they might not be entirely credible in the context of the show. Marceline emphasizes that she sees her dad very rarely.
The incident during which he eats her fries might be one of his rare visits, and even then he finds himself hurting Marceline's feelings. Overall, the feeling is conveyed through Marceline's dialogue and songs that she wishes her father was more present in her life, and implies he could make more of an effort to be with her.
Hunson Abadeer's apparent lack of responsibility and involvement might be accounted for by his responsibilities and personality as The Lord of Evil and ruler of the Nightosphere. A picture of Hunson Abadeer , Marceline , and unknown woman on the right, previously considered as Marceline's mom. In " Henchman ," Marceline says that she "kinda likes" the pain she feels when she's in sunlight because it reminds her of when she would scrape her knees when she was a kid and her mom would "patch her up.
It is because her mother is human and not immortal that she wasn't with Marceline during or after the war. In "Memory of a Memory" and "I Remember You" she is shown, as a child, outdoors and not being burned by the sun. Being able to move about without protection could be explained by a large quantity of fallout in the atmosphere, which could have blocked out a large amount of the ultraviolet rays. This is supported by the burning city viewable in the back ground, or may have somehow been caused by a nuclear explosion, yet it may be because she was not a vampire at the time.
It would also explain why Farmworld Marceline continues to age, because she probably never was bitten by a vampire. The " Adventure Time: Spooktacular " revealed that Marceline's healing ability isn't a result of the vampire bite. She received it when she ate the soul of a vampire who had healing abilities. The ability to eat souls is because of her half-demon heritage, her father taught her the skill when she was younger.
In the " Adventure Time Mini-Series: "Stakes" ", it is revealed that her powers of levitation , invisibility , shapeshifting , and regeneration where obtained from absorbing the souls of the Vampires she killed during her career as a vampire hunter, before she became a Vampire herself.
Marceline has commented several times that she is "over a thousand years old," which makes one think, based upon " Memory of a Memory ," that the Mushroom War occurred around a thousand years ago. One could argue that Marceline could be fibbing about her true age. However, based upon the evidence regarding the Ice King and his origin as revealed in "Holly Jolly Secrets Part Two ," Marceline is more than likely telling the truth about her age.
In the episode, the Ice King is revealed to have been a human living in civilization before the discovery of the Ice Crown , which mutated him into his current supernatural state. As previously revealed by Pen Ward, the Ice King is at least 1, years old, which means that humans and civilization were in existence around 1, years prior to the start of the series, to the point that national cultures and boundaries still existed with him mentioning he found the crown in "Scandinavia," which is an actual location on modern Earth.
Yes you are sweetie, daddy's little monster. From this evidence, a few possibilities can be formed regarding Marceline's age, when she was turned into a vampire or if she was born one - which is very unlikely due to the bite marks on her neck , and, likewise, the time of the Mushroom War and its aftermath:.
She didn't have the bite marks that turned her into a vampire in that memory, showing that she probably wasn't a vampire when she was little, just part demon. In the same episode, she didn't float like Marceline does as a vampire, she hops from trees in a non-human like way, probably because of her demon side. Marceline grew up around the era of The Great Mushroom War, and she and her father survived because of their magic powers, but her mother most likely died in the war because she was a human.
Finn freed Marceline's father from the Nightosphere so that Marceline could have closure with him. He was under the impression that Finn was Marceline's "evil servant," but upon learning that Finn is "super good," quickly attempted to steal Finn's soul. Hunson then took back his old weapon he left with Marcelino in the wreckage; Marceline's guitar and, using it as a battle axe, stole souls throughout the Land of Ooo.
When Marceline's father came to his senses, Finn was able to lock him back in the Nightosphere. Despite this, in " Daddy's Little Monster ," he thinks Finn is cool and doesn't want any hard feelings between them.
Concerning Finn and Jake , he tells Marceline that "they're all right. And that political rap? Pretty great," to show her his appreciation of her friends. When he confronts Gunter , Hunson says Gunter was the "most evil thing he had ever encountered.
However, Gunter slaps him in the face and Marceline's father decides not to steal his soul. Hunson then goes on to shout "Keep your crummy soul! Hunson frightens the Ice King in his monstrous form, causing the Ice King to soil himself "by choice" and fly away.
It is currently unknown whether he is aware that Simon Petrikov took care of Marceline after the Mushroom War. It is also unknown whether he is aware of the Ice King's past as Simon. This may be the case as he chose to spare Ice King by frightening him away instead of sucking his soul, whereas he did not make this distinction for any others except Finn and Jake. In addition, " Everything Stays ," Simon, who has almost transformed into the Ice King permanently and is thus leaving to isolate himself, assures a young Marceline that he has arranged for someone else to take care of her.
It seems that Peppermint Butler has had contact with Hunson and may have good relations with him. In the background of " Return to the Nightosphere ," there is a picture of Hunson playing golf with Peppermint Butler acting as his caddie. This may explain Peppermint Butler's dark past, as seen in " Death in Bloom. It is possible that Abadeer and Abraham Lincoln or the similar looking character, King of Mars, once knew each other because there is a picture of them together in Hunson's house.
